Xristos Gaglias served as a consultant during the spring of 2000 to analyze Stony Brook University’s potential for an Athletic Training Education Program. He was hired in July 2001 to serve as its Curriculum Director. He is a graduate of Cortland State with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education/Athletic Training and Western Michigan University with a master’s degree in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training. Professor Gaglias spent his first three years at Island Sports Physical Therapy as the Director of Athletic Training Services. He then went on to South Dakota State University for three years as a faculty member and Clinical Instructor/Coordinator of Rehabilitation. While in South Dakota, he also served on the State Board of Medical & Osteopathic Examiners. Prior to coming to SBU, he was the Clinical Coordinator for Northeastern University Athletic Training Education Program.
Professor Gaglias has been a certified athletic trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association since 1985. He is also a member of the New York State Athletic Trainers’ Association and a CPR/AED/First Aid instructor for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Emergency Care and Safety Institute. He is currently completing his PhD in Higher Educational Leadership. His research interest includes state licensure and regulation issues for the health care professionals’ scope of practice.
