I chose to major in Athletic Training because I have always been into sports and I am very interested in orthopaedics. There is no other undergraduate program that provides the amount of knowledge, practical skills and experience in athletic and orthopaedic injuries as AT. I am pleased with my decision to attend SBU for athletic training because I have gained a lot of experience in prevention, care, evaluation and rehabilitation of injuries. Not only does the SBU ATEP have excellent professors, the clinical instructors are extremely intelligent and are excellent teachers in a practical sense. There are also amazing learning opportunities that are unavailable to other students (watching MD visits, heart auscultations lab as well as various others).
I would recommend SBU's ATEP because it is unlike any other major. A lot of what you learn is hands-on. Also, you get to learn a lot of interesting things that you can use in real life. Classes have taught me how to be prepared and timely. My clinical experiences have taught me how to think for myself, multitask, and be in charge. I'm pleased with my decision to major in AT because I feel it has changed me in a positive way. I feel like it has helped me become more open and interactive.
