Dr. Johnson joined the faculty in 2000. He served as the EMS Medical Director for University Hospital from 2000-2005 and now serves as the Emergency Department Director for University Hospital’s clinical affiliate, Central Suffolk Hospital. He continues to serve as the Medical Director for the University’s Paramedic Program. Dr. Johnson has been a member of the Suffolk County Regional Emergency Medical Services Council (REMSCO) and the Suffolk County Regional Medical Advisory Committee (REMAC) since 2000. He now serves as the Chairman of the REMAC.  Dr. Johnson was a co-investigator in the three-year NHLB grant, "Early Access to Defibrillation for Victims of Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest" published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2004. Dr. Johnson has also been honored with The Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching two times in his 5-year tenure as Stony Brook faculty.
