Free Prostate Cancer Screenings
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men other than skin cancer, as
well as the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men. Early detection offers the best
chance at long-term survival, which is why the PSA blood test combined with a brief exam has
become an annual event for so many men. The Prostate Care Program offers free screenings at
the ModU Urology Clinic, some of the satellites and throughout the community at various times.
We recommend annual screenings for all men aged 50 and over. African-American men and those with a
family history of prostate cancer should begin annual screenings at age 40. For an appointment,
please call 631.444.4000.
Prostate Cancer Support Group
University Hospital and Medical Center at Stony Brook offers a support group for prostate cancer
patients. The group meets the first Monday of each month, but individual and family therapy is also
available. For information, please call Geoffrey O'Connell, CSW at 631.444.4343.
